About Melanie

Introducing our amazing therapist, Melanie Cox. She knows relationships are a key element to change. Educated and trained in Marriage and Family Therapy, and play therapy, she has worked with children, young families, retired couples, and relationships and ages between. With her unique ability to connect with children and teenagers, she uses humor and pop culture to create an environment where kids feel understood. She has worked with and been trained to help clients of all ages with depression, anxiety, grief, loss, & bereavement, moving, adoption, anger, trauma, and unexpected transitions, as well as clients in the LGBTQ+ community.

Melanie sees therapy as a way to help people overcome barriers that keep them from experiencing a grounded, innately resilient life. She believes that the way we view ourselves, though influenced by our relationships, is vital to this secure lifestyle. She helps clients return to this healthy way of approaching the world through increasing compassion and acceptance for self and others, creatively finding new ways to do things, and having new experiences that show change is possible.

With children, Melanie uses child-centered play therapy, which has been empirically validated to help children with trauma. She has over 60 hours of formal play therapy training from Registered Play Therapists and Experts in addition to her years of experience doing therapy with children.

Melanie received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Brigham Young University. When not at work, she loves eating exotic or unique foods, making pies, hiking and rock climbing, kayaking, camping, reading Steinbeck novels, and watching the best comedies on Netflix.
