When the heaviness won't lift

You're not lazy, and you're not alone

Depression rarely announces itself. It usually shows up as tired, flat, and stretched thin, for weeks or years at a time. If any of this sounds familiar, it’s worth talking to someone:

  • Waking up tired no matter how long you slept
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Feeling flat and numb, or close to tears for no clear reason
  • Snapping at the people you love, then feeling guilty about it
  • Trouble concentrating, deciding, or finishing what you start
  • A quiet sense that you’re failing, even when you’re doing everything
  • Pulling away from friends, church, or family without meaning to
  • Getting through the day, but not really living it

You don’t have to be at your worst to deserve help. Schedule a consultation.

If things feel unsafe right now: if you’re having thoughts of hurting yourself, please don’t wait for an appointment. Call or text 988 any time, day or night, to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or go to your nearest emergency room. You deserve support right now, not later.

Your way forward

Care built around you, not a single method

Depression doesn’t look the same in any two people, so treatment shouldn’t either. Your therapist starts by understanding what your days actually feel like, then draws on the approaches that fit you, which may include CBT, IFS (Internal Family Systems), EMDR when the heaviness is rooted in something you’ve been through, and work on sleep, movement, and relationships. The method follows your needs, not the other way around.

Start where you are

You don’t need to have it figured out, or even be able to explain it. Showing up is enough to begin.

Small steps that add up

Not a life overhaul. Doable changes to sleep, activity, and thinking patterns that slowly give you traction.

Honest hope

Therapy isn’t magic, and we won’t pretend it is. But week after week, the right support changes what feels possible.

Approaches we can draw on

No single method is right for everyone. These are a few of the research-based approaches your therapist may use, chosen to fit you and always at a pace you control.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

The most studied approach for depression. It helps you notice the thought patterns that keep the heaviness going, and rebuild momentum by adding back small pieces of life you’ve stopped doing, one at a time.

Is CBT just positive thinking?

No. It’s a practical method for noticing and reshaping unhelpful thoughts and habits, with skills you practice between sessions.

Then the first steps are small on purpose. Your therapist scales the work to the energy you actually have, not the energy you wish you had.

IFS

Internal Family Systems

A gentle, parts-based approach that helps you meet the different sides of yourself, including the harsh inner critic and the part that’s exhausted from carrying everything, with curiosity instead of judgment. Several of our clinicians are IFS-trained.

What are “parts”?

Parts are the different sides of you, like the one that criticizes or the one that shuts down to protect you. IFS helps you understand and care for them rather than fight them.

Yes. IFS works alongside your values, and our clinicians can keep care faith-sensitive.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

Sometimes depression is grief or old hurt that never got processed. EMDR is a structured, research-backed way to help the brain work through painful memories so they lose their grip on the present. Offered when it fits, never required.

Do I need to have “real trauma” for this?

No. EMDR can help with loss, betrayal, or hard chapters that still weigh on you, whether or not you’d call them trauma.

No. You won’t be asked to retell everything in detail. Your therapist builds grounding skills first, and you set the pace.

Self-pay, reframed

A different kind of care, without the insurance maze

Redwood is a self-pay practice, and when you’re already low on energy, that removes a lot of friction:

  • You choose your therapist, not whoever happens to be in-network.
  • Your privacy stays yours: no mental-health diagnosis on an insurance record.
  • Transparent pricing, with no surprise bills or coverage denials.
  • Care on your timeline, with no session caps dictated by an insurer.
  • The same therapist, week after week, so you’re not starting over.
  • No referral required, and no waiting on approvals to get started.

We’re happy to walk you through pricing on your consultation, with no pressure and no obligation.

Depression therapy FAQ

Warm, evidence-based depression therapy in Saratoga Springs and virtually across Utah, built around your life and your pace. You choose your therapist; no insurance required.

What does depression therapy at Redwood look like?

It starts with a conversation about what your days actually feel like, not a checklist. From there your therapist tailors the work to you, drawing on approaches like CBT, IFS, and EMDR as they fit, along with practical work on sleep, activity, and relationships. There’s no single required method.

You don’t have to know, and you don’t have to earn a diagnosis to come in. If the heaviness has lasted more than a couple of weeks, or the things you used to enjoy have stopped landing, that’s reason enough to talk to someone. The consultation is exactly for sorting this out.

Not necessarily, and that’s a decision for you and a medical provider, not us. We don’t prescribe. Many people do well with therapy alone; others find a combination works best. If medication seems worth exploring, your therapist can coordinate with your doctor and refer you to a prescriber.

It varies. Some people notice small shifts within a handful of sessions; others do longer-term work, especially when depression has been around a long time. Healing rarely happens in a straight line, and your therapist will give you a realistic picture after the first few visits.

We’re a self-pay practice. That means you choose your own therapist, keep your privacy, and get transparent pricing, with no network restrictions or surprise denials. We’ll go over costs on your consultation.

Yes. We offer secure virtual sessions across Utah, plus in-person care at our Saratoga Springs office. On the weeks when getting out the door feels like too much, virtual keeps you going.

Yes. Several of our clinicians work with teens and young adults, and we can involve parents as much or as little as makes sense. If a younger child is struggling, we also offer play therapy.

Yes. If your faith is part of how you make sense of life, your therapist can honor that. And if it’s not, that’s welcome here too.

You don't have to white-knuckle it

Depression tells you it’s not worth reaching out. It’s wrong. One conversation is all it takes to find out if we’re the right fit, and we’ll reach out within one business day.
